Pride Week is underway in Toronto, and the party won’t be stopping for days! Pride week is organized by Pride Toronto, a not-for-profit organization. It exists to celebrate the history, courage, diversity and future of Toronto’s LGBTTIQQ2SA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer/Questioning, 2 Spirited, Allies) communities. Pride Toronto has an entire calendar of arts and cultural events that promote a safe space to engage communities in the celebration of their sexuality. The organization strives to connect with and help develop communities, fostering essential partnerships, and provide a platform for education through a significant public presence. Pride Toronto is planning on getting a LOT bigger in 2014. World Pride 2014 is happening in Toronto, and what better place to celebrate than in a city with one of the largest LGBTQ communities in the world! Toronto will become the first North American city ever to host this ultimate celebration of Pride. Visit the Pride Toronto website to find out more about concerts, the street festival, and of course, the parade!
The library encourages and promotes inclusiveness and education about LGBTTIQQ2SA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer/Questioning, 2 Spirited, Allies) communities. This library Bookbag is a great place to start to learn more about these communities and how to be supportive. Mohawk College has a GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) club. The club promotes a safe and fun environment for LGTBQ and gay-friendly people. Films on Demand has a number of documentary films that promote further education and encourage discussions about the surrounding issues these communities face.
So show your Pride this week, the colours look great on everyone!
