Oskie Wee Wee, Oskie Waa Waa, Holy Mackinaw, Tigers… Eat ’em RAW!! Are you hungry…to win? Today the Hamilton Tiger Cats play their home opener at Ivor Wynne Stadium at 7pm. This is the last year that the Tiger Cats will be playing in the original stadium; the City of Hamilton has approved a major renovation to begin at the end of the 2012 CFL season.
The Hamilton football club was established Nov. 3, 1869, and the team was named the Tigers. After World War II an additional football club, the Hamilton Wildcats, was established and almost immediately so did a rivalry between the two teams. The teams amalgamated in 1950 to form the Hamilton Tiger Cats; since then the team has set various CFL records, including winning the Grey Cup in every decade of the 20th century.
The team has always been a major part of the Hamilton community. The Tiger-Cats made over 1,400 community appearances in the past 12 months – the most in the CFL. Players actively participate in community events and initiatives including Hage’s Heroes, Dave Stala’s Catches For Kids, and Stala’s Stars, to name a few. The organization and its players support the community with a variety of outreach programs that support the City of Hamilton and its youth.
