Celebrate International Women’s Day!

Mark your calendar!  Friday, March 8th, 2013, is the annual celebration of International Women’s Day.  This is a time to reflect on the various issues that women around the world have overcome in the name of equality for all.  International Women’s Day recognizes the dedication to improve the lives of people regardless of gender; and increase opportunities that will enhance equality for all.

The library has resources to help you to learn more about this significant day and to understand the issues related to equality.  To find our International Women’s Day subject guide click here.  The subject guide includes links to web resources, books and e-books, articles and databases, and videos.  The library has also developed a presentation that showcases some of the most significant women in history and their contributions over the last century.

Mohawk College has many exciting and inspiring events scheduled for this Friday too.  Kate Campbell, from HGTV, will be visiting Mohawk College.  As an advocate for women in the trades, she will be speaking to technology students in the morning and will be holding a Q&A session in The Arnie in the afternoon.  There is an Alumni Panel Breakfast on Friday morning at 7:00am.  Graduates from health and technology programs will be sharing their experiences, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask the panel members questions.  A free continental breakfast is included, so remember to register for this event.  The registration form for the breakfast can be accessed here.  For a complete list of events happening around the college this Friday, read the Mohawk Matters blog post.

So wear purple on Friday and participate in the exciting events to support this worth-while cause.
