67 minutes for 67 Years

ImageDid you know that it is Mandela Day?  It’s Nelson Mandela’s birthday, he’s 95 years old this year.  And as you probably know, he is very ill and in hospital in Johanesburg, South Africa.

Mandela Day has become associated with a volunteer movement known as 67 Minutes.  The idea is that you volunteer to do something for someone or a group of people for 67 minutes today.  The 67 minutes represents the 67 years that Mr. Mandela spent fighting for social justice.

You can check out the official Mandela Day website for volunteer activity suggestions and you can share what you did too.  And please share it with us too!

“A good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special.”  Nelson Mandela

Happy Birthday Mandiba!
