When Charles Menches scooped ice cream into a cone for the first time on this date at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, it’s unlikely he could ever have imagined that one day someone would conduct a research study on what our favourite ice cream flavour reveals about our personality. Come to think of it, a hundred plus years later and most of us would still never have imagined such a study! To celebrate National Ice Cream Month (July), Baskin-Robbins teamed up with Dr. Alan Hirsch, a taste and smell expert and founder of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, to conduct just such a study (see infographic for findings.)
Not convinced vanilla lovers are impulsive, those who favour mint chocolate chip are argumentative or fans of rainbow sherbet are analytical, pessimistic and decisive (say it isn’t so!)? What about folks who like to mix it up with a triple scoop of each (multiple personalities?) If you have an appetite to learn more about what makes us tick, check out some of the library’s many resources on the topic of personality types.
Why not let us know what you think of Dr. Hirsch’s study?
