In the City: Apple Festival

This weekend in the city, celebrate the first full week autumn…with apples!  Apples are synonymous with fall much like the changing colours of the leaves.  Battlefield House Museum in Stoney Creek is offering games, wagon rides, pumpkin decorating, live entertainment and more.  The museum is even hosting a Battlefield bake-off, so don’t forget to enter.  If you haven’t visited this civic museum, this is a perfect opportunity to discover something new.  The event is free and runs from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday, September 28th.

If you are looking forward to getting out to enjoy the beautiful fall weather, you can also pick your own apples.  There are a number of local apple orchards in the region – check out this list for the orchard nearest you.

The Mohawk College Library can help you learn more about apples with this article from FoodService Director.  This article from Shape magazine will help you put all those apples to good use with some delicious apple recipes.

Either way, an apple a day keeps the doctor away!
